Fast forward to last week - I sent out one of my Prompt Playbooks as a lead magnet. Simple document, nothing fancy. The result? 500+ email addresses in 24 hours. And that's just one of ~60 lead magnets I rotate through.
I'm going to show you exactly how to build a system that consistently brings in leads while secretly doing your market research for you.

What's a Lead Magnet, Really?
Think of a lead magnet as an "ethical bribe". You're offering something valuable in exchange for someone's email address. But here's the crucial bit - it's a transaction. Their email is valuable. That permission to keep talking to them? It's gold.
Here’s an example - makes it easier to just show this in practice.
First someone will see a post like this:

If they interact they’ll be send to a landing page like this:

Once they enter their email the lead magnet is delivered immediately. And they are subscribed to our email list / newsletter (if you have one).
This is like meeting someone at a party and them giving you their number so you can talk later. Or... I imagine it is. It's not like I get invited to parties...
You’ve probably seen examples of lead magnets all over. You just might not have known the term. It’s a super powerful method in digital marketing and essential if you are building an online business.
Where They Fit In Your Funnel
In the BATON framework (Business, Audience, Tribe, Offer, Network), lead magnets sit at that crucial junction between Audience and Tribe. They're the bridge that transforms casual observers into engaged participants. From passive to active - and ever closer to purchasing.
You've built an audience - people who know about you. Great! But now you need to convert them into a tribe - people who actually want to hear more from you. Lead magnets are how we make that happen.
By opting in to a lead magnet a lead is raising their hand and saying “yes please, I’m interested in what you have to say”. And by doing so they are giving us permission to contact them directly in their inbox.
This is particularly important so that we aren’t at the whims of social media platforms. You account could get shut down. Reach could drop due to an algorithm change. Or the whole platform may get banned! Relying on only social platforms is like building on rented land.
I personally use beehiiv to capture emails, send the newsletter and run sales campaigns. It would be my recommendation but there are other platforms out there too for email marketing.
The Volume Game
Here's where most people get it wrong. They spend weeks crafting the "perfect" lead magnet, launch it... and crickets. Been there, done that, got the emotional scars to prove it.
It took me a long time to swallow my pride and find a different (better!) way. I’m hoping to save you some heartache here.
Instead, we're going to take a different approach. We're going to create multiple lead magnets, launch them quickly, and let the market tell us what works. It's like running a series of small experiments rather than betting everything on one big launch.
I personally rotate through about 60+ lead magnets. I know right… that’s a bunch. Some days it’ll be about the RISEN™ framework. Other days it might be a template for running workshops. Or a guide to building sales funnels. Also switching in and out so there is something new in play.
Why so many? Because we genuinely don't know what will resonate until we try it. Your audience will tell you what they want - but only if you give them options to choose from.
The Market Research Gold Mine
This approach does more than just build your email list. Sure that’s a nice bonus and can drive our business. But what we’ll be doing is more sophisticated.
It's market research and product development rolled into one. Those lead magnets that consistently perform well? They're telling you exactly what your audience wants to buy.
Let me give you a real example. A few months back, I shared a basic guide about running AI workshops. It consistently brought in 200-300 leads every time I shared it. That was the signal. A signal of intent - this is something people want to know more about.
Of the back of this knowledge I developed it into a full workshop toolkit product, and now it drives a significant portion of my business revenue.
No guessing. No hoping for the best. Instead following what the market is actively telling me - then just building what they want. Stop trying to be smart - just follow what people say they want!
This is the power of having multiple lead magnets in play. You're not just growing your email list - you're discovering exactly what your market wants to buy. It’s a market research tool on top of everything else.
